S
ince 2001, Project T.E.C.H. has served more than 600 individuals and organization through our training classes, computer donations, technical support, and media services.

While serving a predominately African American and Latino population, our participants have also included many seniors, and youth with developmental disabilities.

Through our mission and in providing technology access and training, we demonstrate that technology is tool to be used for personal and professional growth, for academic achievement, creative expression, civic engagement, and much more -- for bridging the 'divides' that prevent individuals and families from reaching their full potential.

We also recognize that every person may not aspire to be high-tech gurus or corporate leaders. Our goal is to train, teach, encourage, and guide -- in a way that provides the knowledge and skills one needs to make good and wise decisions for oneself, one's family, and community.

Accomplishments

  • National recognition for our efforts, as a Community Technology Centers' Network 2004 Toni Stone Innovation Award Nominee.
  • Introductory and intermediate/advanced computer and Internet classes for youth and adults;
  • ScienceQuest, a national science and technology exploration program for middle school age youth;
  • Working with a variety of local entities to foster support , cooperation, and collaboration -- including SEIU Local 877 (Justice for Janitors), BDPA-LA, Digital Freedom Foundation & Breast Cancer Survivors Network, local Neighborhood Councils and Associations, Holiday Bowl History Project, Carmelitos Housing Development; and YMCA of the Harbor Area;
  • Supporting local economic development efforts by providing free electronic tax preparation/filling to low-income working families through the IRS VITA program; and
  • Ongoing donations of computers to individuals, families and community groups.

We are proud of our accomplishments and our ability to build relationships with a wide range of groups and organizations in Los Angeles -- remaining actively involved in the promotion of community technology and policies that support making technology accessible to low-income and underserved communities.
