Free Income Tax Filing Assistance

The Tom Bradley Family Source Center will begin offering free income tax preparation to low-income working families and individuals qualifying for the Earned Income Tax Credit. The Earned Income Tax Credit or the EITC is a refundable federal income tax credit for low to moderate income working individuals and families. Congress originally approved the tax credit legislation in 1975. When the EITC exceeds the amount of taxes owed, it results in a tax refund to those who claim and qualify for the credit. To qualify, taxpayers must meet certain requirements and file a tax return, even if they did not earn enough money to be obligated to file a tax return.

The EITC has no effect on certain welfare benefits. In most cases, EITC payments will not be used to determine eligibility for Medicaid, Supplemental Security Income (SSI), food stamps, low-income housing or most Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) payments.

Tax prep services will be offered in the FSS Computer Lab, Wednesday evenings from 6:30-9:00p.m. Other days and hours TBD. Please call the Center at 323.692.0669 for more information.

FamilySource Centers
FamilySource Centers are located throughout the city of Los Angeles and serve, assist and support residents in their local neighborhoods and communities. Each center offers a variety of educational, family, child and youth services including counseling, cultural, recreational and
after school activities on-site or nearby through referrals. The specific services at each center vary according to the needs of the local community. In the event of a state or federally declared disaster, FamilySource Centers are the City's designated emergency centers, and will be open to assist local residents with information and services needed during the specific event.

This month FSS will begin offering computer literacy training and tutoring to residents in the greater Vermont-Manchester community. Through the Community Build FamilySource Center at 86th Street and Vermont Ave. For more information contact Community Build at 323.789.9950.
