The Legacy that Ignites the Vision
Mrs. Parks Background

Rosa Parks is famously known as the African American woman who refused to give up her bus seat for a white passenger in 1955. In addition to serving as secretary to the Montgomery chapter of the NAACP and receptionist and secretary to African American US Representative John Conyers, Mrs. Parks became a symbol of the Civil Rights Movement and earned many honors including the Spingarn Medal to the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the Congressional Gold Medal. Even after her death in 2005, Mrs. Parks remains an icon of resistance to racial segregation.
