Tom Bradley

From his humble beginnings as a sharecropper’s son, Tom Bradley became the first African American to attain the rank of lieutenant in the Los Angeles Police Department, to be elected to the Los Angeles City Council and to be elected mayor. “The Mayor.” as he was affectionately known, spent 21 years with the LAPD; 10 years as a City Councilmember, representing Council district 10; and an unparalleled 20 years as the city’s chief executive, from 1973-1993.
